Getting Started On the Journey

I am a creature of comfort. I am risk-averse and a lover of boundaries. So when many of my friends suggested I start a blog about my weight-loss journey I was skeptical, to say the least. Who would want to hear from me?  Even though I have lost over 60 pounds I am nowhere near my goal. But over the last year and a half I have encountered so many people who have been encouraged and inspired by my journey that I figured, why not give it a shot? So I decided to get started.

After five pregnancies and three live births during my 30s I had pretty much sacrificed my ideal body image on the altar of motherhood. But as I approached my 40th birthday and the end of childbearing I decided that I wanted my body back. When my Assistant Principal suggested a Weight Watchers' At-Work program to me I was doubtful. I had tried another program before and spent a lot of money with little results. My Pastor often says, "If you want something different you have to do something different." Clearly what I was doing wasn't working and getting me my desired result, so rather than rest and relax in my comfort zone, I had to get out of it and get started.

It wasn't easy in the beginning. I had to totally transform the way I thought and approached food and eating. I had to become more conscientious about what I was putting into my mouth. I had to educate myself about the foods that I eat. I had to get up and become more active. I had to learn to make better choices. But more than anything, I had to get started.

Whatever changes you need to make in your life, don't allow fear to prevent you from stepping out into the unknown. When Peter walked on water with Jesus (Matthew 14:27-29) he had to discard his fears and step out on faith; he did not have clear vision of the path he was to take toward Jesus, but he knew how to get there and which direction to go. Only when he stepped out of the boat was he able to get clearer vision of his destination. Whether you are just beginning you journey or you've been doing it for a while like myself and need to make adjustments, you will never see the results you want until you GET STARTED!

Let's do this!
